Renewed Funding Secures the Future of Mount Isa’s Regional Jobs Committee

Crisafulli Government delivers fresh start for Regional Jobs Committees

Mount Isa’s Regional Jobs Committee (RJC), hosted by Mount Isa City Council, has received renewed funding to continue its vital role in strengthening the region’s workforce and unlocking new economic opportunities.

The RJC brings together community, industry and government to address local workforce challenges, design practical solutions and improve access to training and employment pathways. The funding extension allows the Committee to build on the strong partnerships, engagement and progress achieved over the past 14 months.

RJC Project Manager Natasha Storey welcomed the announcement, noting its significance for the region. “This funding decision is a vote of confidence in our region’s capacity to lead local solutions for local jobs,” Ms Storey said. “It enables us to continue building capability, strengthening collaboration and delivering initiatives that reflect the aspirations of our community.”

The Mount Isa RJC is guided by a cross-sector Committee representing eight key industries and sectors. Working groups made up of local leaders, practitioners and community members act as the engine room of the RJC, shaping solutions across First Nations employment, health and social assistance, construction, manufacturing, youth engagement and other emerging workforce needs.

RJC Chair Chris Ruyg said the renewed investment reinforces the value of the collaborative model. “The RJC has become a trusted regional platform where local ideas translate into local impact,” Mr Ruyg said. “This support ensures we can keep building momentum and delivering outcomes that make a difference on the ground.”

Mount Isa City Council Mayor Cr Peta MacRae said Council is proud to host the RJC and champion the work underway. “This renewed investment enables us to continue strengthening local capability, supporting industry growth and backing the aspirations of our people,” Cr MacRae said. “The work of the RJC shows what’s possible when we collaborate across sectors to create lasting change.”

Over the past year, the Mount Isa RJC has delivered and progressed a wide range of initiatives, including regional Jobs Expos, industry forums, employer engagement, First Nations transition programs, and data-informed workforce strategies. These projects have strengthened collaboration and improved visibility of local workforce opportunities.

As the Queensland Government begins its statewide transition process for future Regional Jobs Committee arrangements, the Mount Isa RJC will continue refining priorities, advancing implementation and pursuing further investment to support long-term workforce development across the LGA.
